Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s CEO has been sacked because of a relationship with an employee. According to a press release from the McDonald’s, Mr. Steve Easterbook got dismissed from the McDonald’s over his relationship with an employee.
Mr. Easterbrook left McDonald’s in 2011 to become CEO of Britain’s PizzaExpress Ltd. and then Japanese-style noodle bar chain Wagamama Ltd. Two years later he returned, eventually becoming McDonald’s global chief brand officer.
- The burger giant said Sunday that its board voted Friday to terminate Mr. Steve Easterbrook after investigating his relationship with an employee.
- The company said in a press release that the executive was being terminated after he “violated company policy and demonstrated poor judgment involving a recent consensual relationship with an employee.”
- He has also stepped down as McDonald’s president and member of the board.
- In an email to colleagues, Easterbrook reportedly acknowledged he had a relationship with a worker and said it had been a slip-up.
- Meanwhile, Chris Kempczinski, who was working as president, will take the charge for the same.
- Mr. Easterbrook, 52, is divorced. And first worked for McDonald’s in 1993 as a manager in London before working his way up the company.

On Friday, 1 November 2019, the Board of Directors voted to dismiss Easterbrook with immediate effect, due to evidence of a relationship with a staff member – a violation of company policy. After that, a press release has been issued from McDonald’s Corp about the dismissal of Mr. Easterbrook.

The board was alerted to the relationship, conducted a thorough investigation and acted swiftly, according to McDonald’s. The company declined to provide any other details.
McDonald’s said Mr. Easterbrook would be succeeded immediately by USA President Chris Kempczinski, 51 years old.
“Wouldn’t life be great if everyone was happy? Of course,” Mr. Easterbrook told investors. “Am I fundamentally concerned that it will derail us from the shared vision that we have? No, not at all.”

Last year Intel boss Brian Krzanich stepped down for having a consensual relationship with an Intel employee, which was against company rules. He had been in the post since May 2013.
The definition has not changed, even though a McDonald’s survey claimed most people now feel it is unfair.
A representative for Mr. Easterbrook said he is grateful for his time at the company and has declined to comment further.
“There isn’t going to be some radical, strategic shift. The plan is working,” Mr. Kempczinski said in an interview on Sunday.
